In another interview, Chris said, “We’re so happy Netflix recognized the importance of giving Ozark more time to end the Byrdes’ saga right.” According to the team, it was a perfect ending for the Byrdes family, and they are grateful to offer a satisfactory conclusion to the audience.
The Team Of Ozark Settled For Four Season Instead Of Five:
The showrunner also talked about how they settled for four seasons instead of doing five in total. The team came up with the idea of doing a longer final season.
“I’ve been talking to them about trying to end it in five [seasons], and they weren’t sure if they wanted to do four or five, and Netflix is the one that hit upon the idea of doing four seasons but a longer order, with the idea always being that it would split. My gut feeling is that they appreciate letting things run the right amount of time for them and creatively.
I know for us, creatively, we didn’t think it would go past five. Knowing where we wanted to end it—at least emotionally; we didn’t know all the mechanics of it—it felt like somewhere in that four-five season range was perfect.”
The lead actor Jason Bateman also dropped his thoughts on the seasons of the series. He said, “I think there’s always been the presumed area [of] three seasons, four seasons, five seasons, something like that.”
Leaving Ozark Has Been Emotional For The Team:

On the same topic, the showrunner also talked about revisiting the characters through a spin-off. “There are still ways to stay inside the show and revisit things. People probably would’ve been happier if Ruth was out there.”
He also added that the spin-off would be unique in the same universe. “It was really important for me to end this show. This is our work; we did our best, and we hope people like it. And then anything that spins off from it would be its own distinct thing, even though it’s in our universe.”
